We recently announced our official integration with Meta, which changes how Quest devices are enrolled and used with ManageXR.
For a full overview of the changes, visit our Integration Hub.
New Quest devices on ManageXR will be required to be in one of Meta’s device modes: Individual Mode or Shared Mode. At device enrollment, it’s important to consider how your devices will be used. Shared Mode is for devices that will be used by multiple people and Individual Mode is for devices used by a single person.
Choosing a device experience
Selection of the device experience at enrollment will determine what mode your device will be in. If you plan to use kiosk mode, kiosk video, or a custom home screen, your device will be in Shared Mode. Shared Mode is the most popular:
- Lock devices down with a 100% reliable kiosk mode
- Take advantage of a better casting experience with no sign-in required
- Access Meta’s native quick settings menu
- Use one managed Meta account at the organization level instead of juggling log-in information for all your devices.
Session Management

In Shared Mode, where many users can use a single device, Meta ensures that each user starts their in-headset experience with a clean slate. Each new session begins with a new user experience, which includes optional tutorial steps and accepting the required legal terms.

You can control which tutorial steps (Wake controllers, Adjust device fit) are shown to new users by customizing the Session Intro Steps on the device’s Configuration on ManageXR. The legal steps are required and cannot be turned off in ManageXR.
Shared Mode Experience

The first time a new user begins a session on a Quest device in Shared Mode, they would go through the following steps:
- Put on the headset.
- Complete the New User Experience, which includes the optional tutorial steps and required legal steps.
- Set their passcode, which identifies them as an individual user. The passcode can be used in the future to resume their session and skip the New User Experience.
- Enter the ManageXR Home Screen or Kiosk.
- End their session and take their headset off.
After setting their passcode in their first session, a user can return to the headset, enter their passcode, and immediately enter the ManageXR Home Screen or Kiosk. If a different user puts on the headset, they will be directed to enter the session passcode if they know it or leave the session to start a new user session.
